About Charlie Finlayson
Charlie is a partner on the appellate team at Claggett & Sykes Law Firm.
Charlie wanted to be a criminal defense attorney from an early age. While in law school, Charlie had the opportunity to work on multiple death penalty cases, including some of the most notable criminal cases in the last few decades, including the Casey Anthony murder case. Charlie's legal writing was featured on multiple tv shows and news programs, and it was during this time that Charlie shifted his interest away from trial work and toward legal writing.
After law school, Charlie moved to Nevada and began working as a staff attorney in the criminal division of the Nevada Supreme Court, which involved resolving criminal appeals and writ petitions in death penalty cases. After seven years working alongside the justices at the Nevada Supreme Court, Charlie began working for the Office of the Nevada Attorney General in the habeas appeals division. There, Charlie defended countless criminal convictions in state and federal courts and wrote briefs in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Nevada Supreme Court, and the United States Supreme Court. Charlie also had the privilege of arguing multiple cases before different panels of appellate court judges. Charlie was honored to have been awarded for his commitment to justice by the Attorney General during his first year with the office.
Charlie loves living in Reno with his partner and spends his free time taking care of his small hobby farm complete with ducks, chickens, turkeys, goats, and bees. Charlie is looking forward to expanding his farm and brewing his own mead next year.
